Dr. Michael Billington is a dual board-certified physician specializing in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. He is the Director of the Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, and serves as Deputy Editor for the NEJM Journal Watch. After developing his interest in cardiovascular physiology and functional strength training as a Division 1 middle-distance runner at Georgetown University, Dr. Billington earned his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his residency through the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency and pursued fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Billington’s academic interests include critical care education, complications arising from cancer treatments, and improving critical care infrastructure in rural areas. Additionally, his experience as a writer for the medical drama series “The Resident” has deeply influenced his approach to patient communication, emphasizing the importance of personal narratives in health care.
